Second facility opening for 1Life as council contract is extended

1Life is opening its second facility of 2014 as part of a five year extension of its leisure services contract with Wokingham Borough Council.

The company has taken over Bulmershe Leisure Centre from Woodley Town Council, and the facility will be transformed with an injection of £225,000 to create a new gym, with new flooring, décor, equipment, audio and entertainment system and air conditioning. A small hall will also be converted into a gym offering cardio, free-weights, functional and stretch areas.

In addition, the swimming pool changing facilities, reception and toilets will all be refurbished. The new centre will offer health and wellbeing services as well as physical and sports activities.

During the term of the contract with Wokingham Borough Council, 1Life and the council will make a total investment of more than £2.2m, which includes £1.1m being dedicated to modernising facilities and adding new services. An additional £1.1m is being spent on a continuous programme of service and maintenance improvements intended to generate higher revenue for the council.

The remaining modernisation investment will see 1Life invest £774,000 and the Borough Council invest £345,000, with the funding used to turn Carnival Pool into a modern pool and fitness centre with a new dance studio, reception and changing rooms; install a new indoor cycling suite at Loddon Valley; and full redecorate all three Wokingham centres including St Crispin’s Leisure Centre.
